How to Create a New WordPress Blog or Website from Scratch in 10 Minutes

I create a new website about make money online and online marketing precisely with a post about the process I have followed to get here. Keep reading and I’ll tell you the steps to Create a New WordPress Blog or Website from Scratch in 10 Minutes!

As there are many things to keep in mind before creating a website, and above all of very different scope (domain, hosting, image, SEO…) I will try to organize this post explaining the steps in the order in which I have been carrying them out.

Create a New WordPress Blog or Website from Scratch in 10 Minutes

Before creating a website, choose the niche first

It seems obvious, but it is true that many times we may want to create a website without being very clear whether the niche we have chosen is the right one, or the approach we are going to give to our content.

In the world of website there is a lot of competition (and in online marketing topics I would say more than usual), so it is not enough to open a new page, but you have to analyze well what you are going to contribute that others do not do, what is the differentiating point that you are going to give it.

Choose a subject you’re an expert on or at least passionate about.

You may think it takes being an expert on a topic to open a website about it. Although you’re right, the truth is that it should be enough for you to be passionate about it.

Why? Because if it’s a niche you love, you won’t have any qualms about researching and updating yourself to create the best possible content. That is why it is very important that the topic you choose meets one of these two criteria, although if it meets both it is even better!

Your website should always be useful to others, or at least to your target audience

Now, in addition to being a topic that you’re passionate about, your website should be about something that is passionate about others as well. If it wasn’t… no one would read it!

Look for balance, you don’t have to sell yourself for getting visitors writing about something you don’t like. But you can’t write about anything that only interests you, at least not if one of your goals is to gain readers and subscribers.

It is a topic that you can offer useful and quality content for your target audience. It doesn’t matter if it’s a small audience as long as it’s of value to you.

Analyzes the volume of searches of the chosen niche

Apart from dealing with a topic that you are passionate about and is useful for your target audience, you should also keep in mind that your audience is looking for it on the Internet.

There are super interesting niches but they do not receive searches on the Internet, or they are searched differently. Investigate well through tools such as Google Adwords Keyword Planner or SEMrush Keyword Analytics which words are used to search the subject you have chosen, if used.

Inspired by the success of the competition

Finally, tell you that when looking for a niche to write about it is very difficult to find one that no longer deals with another blog. That doesn’t mean that you can’t contribute anything different, but what it does mean is that you will have several options to investigate what works for your competition to add to your strategy.

It’s not about copying, it’s about inspiring yourself with the best

Best personal brand or an independent identity?

One of the initial headaches that usually come when creating a blog is … Should I have my name on it? Is it better to think of an original and hook title? But unfortunately, there is no 100% correct answer to this.

Descriptive name vs. creative name

This doubt is the most common. If I’m opening a blog about social media, should I have my name on it? Should I have a name related to social media? Or rather an original and totally different name?

You need to analyze well what your blog’s goal is and the focus you’re going to give it. If the purpose is to promote you as a reference in the sector, for example, it is better to carry your name. If you want your figure to be in the background, you can think of a different name for your blog. Everything depends on the context

Use keywords within your domain

Choose the option you choose, it’s always a good option to add some keyword to your domain. If your name is Jimmy Fresh, your domain could be if you’re gonna deal with marketing.

How to choose the best hosting

Although in this topic I get a little lost, especially considering that at the moment I have opened my blog with namecheap (hurry up…), I have read about the topic and I trust a lot of in the opinion of an expert like Jimmitry Elisca who in his blog recommends us the services of Namecheap Web Hosting.

What features to consider when choosing a hosting

As Jimmitry Elisca rightly says, the best hosting is the one who gives you what you need. Among the options we should value when choosing a hosting, we find:

  • If you support the CMS you will use on your blog (for example, WordPress)
  • How is the technical service
  • The disk space
  • Monthly data transfer
  • Scalability if you need to change plan
  • What security options they offer
  • The number of email accounts
  • The price, of course

Value this data and put it in conjunction with the different prices, and opt for the hosting that suits you best.

In many occasions you will also get the domain name in the same service. You can take the opportunity to think about what domain name your blog will have and also whether it will be .com. .org, .net, .biz, .es, .info, .inc, .it etc….

In general, the usual thing is to buy a .com, but it also depends on your goals. And if you can buy the general and also the concrete of your country, perfect!

How to create your blog and configure a theme

In this section I will explain in a general way how to create a blog in WordPress, which is where I have hosted mine and also is of the most common CMS.

Installation of WordPress

Many hosts include the pre-installation of WordPress among their services. If it’s your case, you’ll have a lot easier to create your blog, since you’ll just have to click a couple of clicks and it’ll be uploaded.

If your hosting does not give you this option you will have to upload the blog manually. It’s something I couldn’t explain in a post like this, so if you want to go deeper into the topic you can consult this full tutorial by José Facchin.

How to buy a WordPress template

The good thing about WordPress is that it has plenty of fantastic templates to customize your blog, without needing to know much about design or programming.

On pages like Themeforest you will find a multitude of templates from€ 20-25 that will work great on your blog. The good thing about these templates is that they include technical support for a while, and they also usually have updates and are better prepared for plugins and at CSS level than free templates.

Configure your website in search console webmaster tools of the 3 most powerful search engine

Configure Search Console serves to make your blog display correctly on Google when users perform a search related to your theme. This step should be realized as soon as you create your blog, although if you already had your blog created and you didn’t, it’s never too late!

Steps to follow to create your Google Search Console account

Enter here with your Google account associated with the blog and add the property (your domain). You will have to create a property for the URL with www and without www (if you have HTTPs, the same with the four variations)
You’ll have to verify that you own that property. Google gives you several options for it.

How to configure Search Console parameters

When you have access to all Search Console functionalities (maybe you should wait a day or two) you will find a multitude of functions that will suit you great to optimize your SEO level blog, among them the most important are:

Tracking errors: tells you if there is any failure in indexing your contents

Sitemaps: allows you to upload the sitemap from your website (there are plugins that automatically generate it) to give Google recommendations about what to index within your blog.

Search queries: here you can see through which queries your contents appear on Google, or how many clicks you receive from each of those searches.

Indexing status: it tells you which pages you have sent to index and how many have been indexed correctly.

Choose preferred domain: within the site settings you must choose the preferred domain for your blog (with or without www).

There are many more tools within Search Console, I invite you to investigate a little within the application and discover them

Install Google Analytics on your blog

Installing Google Analytics on your blog is very easy, especially if you use WordPress. Here are the general steps:

  • Enter here with your Google account associated with the blog and click on ‘Sign up’
  • Fill in the form indicating the name of your account (if you include other websites later), the URL and name of your website, and other information that will be requested.
  • If you enter the Analytics administrator on your website, and click on ‘account settings’, you can see your account ID.
  • You go to the configuration of the ‘Google Universal Analytics’ plugin that I have commented before and paste the account ID.

Now you have Google Analytics connected to your blog!

Fill out your blog content initial

Now the time has come to generate content for your blog. To begin with, there are two important steps:

Think of the first posts in your blog: don’t go on the adventure of publishing your blog without having previously made a reflection on the first contents you will write. It would be nice if you were clear about at least the first five, and also the periodicity with which you are going to publish them.

Have written at least three contents: before launching the blog ten prepared several contents. You can publish all three at once when you launch it, or publish them gradually. But having them ready will make you not fall asleep on your laurels and keep your blog with just one post for a long time.

Before posting your blog, make sure you’re not blocking search engines
One of the WordPress options that are sometimes marked by default before posting the blog is that search engines do not enter to read the content. The utility of this is that posts are not indexed when your blog is half-baked.

Make sure that before posting you have disabled this option:

In the WordPress administrator go to ‘Settings’ – > ’reading’

Disable the ‘visibility for search engines: deter search engines from indexing this Site’ option

Start getting hits through social media

The contents of a blog are designed to position themselves on Google and bring organic traffic automatically. However, this does not always happen and, even if it does, it does happen in the medium-long term.

To start winning visits to your blog, I recommend that you post it on all social networks you think are appropriate. Also move the content of your blog, as well as announce that you have opened it.
